posted Dec 1, 2016, 12:00 AM by Berlin Development
We are pleased to announce the release of the first Request for Proposals (RFP) for CEGA’s Economic Development & Institutions initiative (EDI), a 4-year program supported by the UK Department for International Development. We had the pleasure of announcing this while joining the recent West Coast WGAPE convening at Stanford.

Approximately $7 million in research awards are budgeted for 3 funding rounds during 2016 - 2018. For this round, we expect to make multiple awards for both full-scale RCTs (no funding limit, but awards can be up to $745,000 per study at current exchange rates) and pilot studies (up to $27,000 per study).

We are looking for evaluations testing one or more of the following strategies to improve the effectiveness, accountability, and/or inclusiveness of public institutions in developing countries and ultimately support economic development:

● Financial or non-financial incentives (e.g. to enhance performance or compliance, or to encourage citizen engagement, etc.)
● Access, sharing or distribution of information (e.g. to increase transparency, monitor performance, etc.)
● Public official or employee selection (e.g. to improve recruitment, appointment, or election of bureaucrats, political leaders, and/or judicial officials)

Researchers from any institution are eligible to apply. Graduate students who have a senior researcher on their thesis committee are invited to apply for pilot funding, although they must have this faculty member also serve as a PI on the proposal.

Information needed to apply for funding is available at:

A pre-proposal form (a very basic expression of interest) must be submitted online by 5pm U.S. Pacific Time on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at http://tinyurl.com/EDIRCTs

Application materials must be emailed to edi@berkeley.edu by 5pm U.S. Pacific Time on Tuesday February 21, 2017.
